Understanding what it takes to be successful
Teams consistently have coaching staff turnovers. Many coaches think they know what it took to build the program they inherited. After a short while they realize the program they inherited is not what they perceived it to be. What they saw on the outside did not show everything about the dynamics of the job.
Notice the top teams in a district year in and year out. They might not win the championship, but they are in the hunt every season. The talent level might be higher or lower on any given year, but the team is always showing the same characteristics.
State caliber programs attract highlighted coaches. Some of these coaches have built a reputation by being at the right place at the right time but really have a hard time succeeding in programs demanding a different set of coaching skills. People need to thoroughly understand what makes a program successful. Appearances do not tell the entire story.
