Retired Chief Warrant Officer II Charles “Dale” Baker

Dale Baker, 82, of Copperas Cove died Wednesday, April 18. , He was buried at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Baker was born on Jan. 2, 1936, to John and Virginia Collins Baker in Marion, Ill. He graduated from Marion Township High School in 1954. In high school, Baker worked at the local newspaper and hoped to pursue that as a career. He married Phyllis Brown on Sept. 17, 1955, in Marion, Ill. In 1957, he joined the United States Army. Baker served over 20 years, raising his family in Europe for two of his four tours. After his retirement, he worked for Civil Service at Fort Riley, Kan., for another 22 years. The Bakers moved to Copperas Cove in June of 2009. Baker is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn Kucheska; a brother, John Thomas Baker; and a niece, Karen Baker. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Baker; children, Charles Dale Baker Jr. and wife, Betsy, Bruce Allen Baker, Sheila Kay Baker-Daymude-Rowland and husband Ted and Anthony Lee Baker and wife Stephanie; brothers, Frank Baker and Harold Baker; and nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
