Operation Stand Down holds fundraiser
A steady stream of people came in to Applebee’s Saturday morning to get plates of hot pancakes, eggs, potatoes and sausage to help Copperas Cove’s Operation Stand Down raise money to assist homeless veterans and their families.
Joann Courtland, director of Operation Stand Down, said she was pleased with the turnout. “We got out the word (of the event) early with advertising,” said Courtland. “We sold about 70 pretickets but a lot of people paid at the door. I’m sure we’re also catching people with our volunteers holding signs outside. Plus two of our regular volunteers are wearing pancake costumes they bought themselves.”
