Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Rainbow Girls celebrate at library with books, arts and crafts

For National Read Across America Day, the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, working with the Order of the Eastern Star, held a Dr. Seuss birthday party at the Copperas Cove Library Saturday that included crafts, reading and a birthday cake.

The Rainbow Girls, a Masonic youth service organization, and the Order of the Eastern Star, attached to the Masons, came together for the nationwide celebration of Dr. Seuss to help promote literacy through their groups.

“It’s our state service project this year,” said Lisa Jorstad, advisor for the Rainbow Girls. “It’s all about reading. The president of the Rainbow Girls in Texas took this on as her service project, reading, and asked everybody to participate in reading across America. So we called the library to see if we could do something. Their schedule was open so we decided to help the library and make something happen and here we are.”
