Williams-Ledger students produce edible science experiment
Seven mystery ingredients were perfectly aligned on a long, rectangular table. Their smell, physical properties and volume are all different, and telling them apart was difficult. The goal was to determine what the ingredients were before mixing up a batch of … well, that’s still a mystery. Fifth-grade scientists at Williams-Ledger Elementary participated in a “Mystery Ingredients Lab” where they combined all of the knowledge they’ve learned throughout their unit on physical properties and matter.
They extensively covered mass, volume, density, and physical state, and their knowledge was literally about to be put to the test. The young scientists were given a recipe with no ingredient names. With a list of ingredient properties such as color and texture, the students worked in small groups to examine and determine what they thought the mystery ingredients were.
