Annual block party celebrates Fourth of July
It’s a Fourth of July Celebration that has been growing for four years in a Copperas Cove neighborhood. And it has grown so much, it was time to block the street off at Margaret Lee and Juniper Circle. Husband and wife team Haley and Joe Phillips began hosting a barbecue cookout on the fourth and invited all of their neighbors to join them on their deck for two years. “The Fourth of July cookout grew each year so we decided it was time to block the street off, set up tables out on the street and add some bounce houses for the kids,
” said Haley Phillips. “We went to the city and filled out an application to get a permit to do it.” The neighborhood celebration was held Saturday. Set up began early as barricades went up, preventing access to the neighborhood by vehicles, and the fun would go on until later that night. This year, instead of bounce houses, the neighbors decided to rent a huge water slide for the children and adults to splash around in and cool off.
